What is North Tampa Executive (NTE) Health Clinic?

Dr. McGeachy explains the core philosophies and principles which guide our practice. NTE Health is unique in that we emphasize the physician-patient relationship as core to the treatment of substance use disorder. Few others can provide the level of care that we do.

Addiction Recovery Begins Here.

You’ve decided it is time to seek treatment. At North Tampa Executive Health we can help you create recovery on your own terms.

Don’t worry about the details just yet, there is plenty of time during the initial appointment for us to discuss those.

Right now, you want the big picture so you can make an informed decision.

The first step is choosing your treatment venue.

If you are in crisis or medically ill, you ought to seek medical care in the emergency department. There you can be stabilized and evaluated for emergency conditions.

Assuming that you are medically stable and not in a mental health crisis, you have to make a choice about addiction treatment venues.

Some patients need an intensive approach and would benefit from inpatient rehabilitation. Typically, inpatient treatment is reserved for those with severe drug use problems or those who are court ordered to attend treatment.

Not everyone needs inpatient treatment, however, and an inpatient stay can be very disruptive to an individual’s life.

Thankfully, there exist many outpatient treatment options for patients with opioid use disorder. Some patients benefit from the daily check ins that a traditional methadone clinic provides. However, this is disruptive to many patients’ lifestyles and they would prefer a less restrictive treatment option.

At North Tampa Executive (NTE) Health, we offer outpatient treatment for opioid use disorder in a clinic environment. At the first appointment, Dr. McGeachy evaluates you and creates a treatment plan with you collaboratively. You can start your treatment with Suboxone by the next day with a home induction plan. You will have a follow up visit later that week where your dose is adjusted if necessary. We will work with you to find the correct treatment plan.

Once on a stable dose, you will follow up at least monthly for continued monitoring of your treatment plan. Our philosophy at NTE Health is that every patient is an individual and requires their own tailored treatment plan.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment

In addition to treating opioid use disorder, we also care for patients seeking treatment of problematic alcohol use.

If you feel that you can no longer control your use of alcohol and are seeking medically managed detoxification, NTE Health can help you.

It is important not to stop alcohol use cold turkey before seeking the advice of a physician. Sudden discontinuation of alcohol use can result in withdrawal symptoms, seizures, and delirium tremens which are life threatening.

If you have a history of alcohol withdrawal seizures or delirium tremens, you should seek care in the emergency department or from an inpatient alcohol detox center.

If you have not experienced seizure or delirium tremens from alcohol cessation, then you may be a candidate for outpatient alcohol detoxification. With this program, you can detox in the comfort and privacy of your own home.

After booking an appointment with Dr. McGeachy, he will perform a detailed initial evaluation and formulate a treatment plan. If you are a candidate for outpatient treatment, you may begin as soon as that day.

Our treatment utilizes non-narcotic drugs that are proven effective in reducing the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal and preventing the serious consequences of alcohol withdrawal such as seizures and delirium tremens.

It is important to note that outpatient medical treatment of alcohol withdrawal requires the assistance of at least one additional, sober adult who can monitor the patient at home.

After you have completed the detoxification program, your treatment will continue with regular follow up visit and the option for treatment with medication to prevent relapse of alcohol use disorder.

Private Addiction Treatment
for Professionals

Our clinic provide treatment suited for the lifestyle of working professionals. Addiction does not discriminate according to profession or economic status.

We understand our clients’ need for discreet and confidential treatment. Our unique strength is providing outpatient treatment with minimal disruption to your life.

At NTE Health you can recover without the need for lengthy inpatient stays or daily clinic visits. We prioritize return your ability to return to work and daily activities as soon as possible. In most cases, patients need only make one in person visit per month.

We pride ourselves on discretion. Internal patient charts are never shared with insurance companies or other corporate entities. No patient information is released without written consent or without the demands of the law.

We pledge to never release patient information to outside entities without your written consent or a subpoena. You can rest assured that your private health information is secure.

Above all, we at NTE Health recognize that you are a unique individual and deserve an individualized medical treatment plan. Unlike larger clinics and treatment centers which operate on a volume-based model, we offer a treatment plan tailored to you.

That’s the meaning of our moto: “Recovery on Your Terms.”

Compare Addiction Treatment Options

  • Clients live at the facility where they receive full time care for addiction.

Time Commitment: 1-6 months full time.

Able to Work: No (patients live at rehab program).

    Cost: $30K-100K per month.

    Offers Medication: Yes

    Offers Psychotherapy: Yes

    Individual Care from Doctor: No

Notes: Inpatient rehab is extraordinarily expensive and highly disruptive to an individual’s life. It is usually reserved for the most severe cases of substance use disorder. Many, if not the majority, of patients with substance use disorder can be successfully treated as an outpatient.

  • Clients are treated for the initial stages of drug and alcohol withdrawal before entering another treatment program. Some detox facilities offer outpatient treatment.

Time Commitment: 3-7 days full time

    Able to Work: No

    Cost: $1,000 to $10,000

    Offers Medication: Yes

    Offers Psychotherapy: Sometimes

    Individual Care from Doctor: No

Note: Detoxification centers specialize in treating the first stage of drug and alcohol withdrawal. Inpatient detox may be necessary for individuals with a high risk of complicated alcohol withdrawal, such as those who have a history of alcohol withdrawal seizures or delirium tremens. Patients at low risk for complicated withdrawal can be safely treated as outpatients. The majority of patients with opioid use disorder can safely have their opioid dependence treated as an outpatient.

  • A facility which is usually publicly funded and offers substance use treatment services for individuals with no ability to pay or who are otherwise unable to access care. Clients typically live at the CSU and receive treatment on a daily basis until they are stabilized.

Time Commitment: Full-time treatment for days to weeks.

    Able to Work: No

Cost: $300 per day, which is typically not charged to the patient.

    Offers Medication: Yes

    Offers Psychotherapy: Yes

    Individual Care from Doctor: No

Notes: CSU’s are typically treatment centers of last resort and are chronically underfunded. Thus, waiting lists for beds are long and patients presenting voluntarily may be turned away if the CSU is full of involuntary patients.

  • Clients live at home but travel to the IOP on a daily basis or several times per week. Treatment is typically more intensive at first with decreasing amounts of time spent at the facility as clients progress in recovery.

Time Commitment: Varies from all-day, every day of the week to several hours an evening, several times per week.

Able to Work: Yes, but clients must schedule around treatment commitments.

    Cost: $3,000 to $10,000

Offers Medication: Some programs but not all.

    Offers Psychotherapy: Yes

    Individual Care from Doctor: No

Notes: IOP can be a good treatment option for many patients with substance use disorder, but they are time intensive and rely largely on group therapy, which can be barriers to care for some clients.

  • Clients are treated with methadone, buprenorphine (Suboxone), or naltrexone (Vivitrol) by traveling to the facility on a daily basis to receive their dose of medication.

Time Commitment: About four to six hours for initial intake and then 1-2 hours each day to receive medication doses and several hours a week for counseling and therapy.

Able to Work: Yes, but patients must present to the clinic daily for medication dosing.

Cost: $300 to $1,000 per month

    Offers Medication: Yes

    Offers Psychotherapy: Yes

    Individual Care from Doctor: No

Notes: Treatment from an OTP makes inflexible demands on their client’s schedules, because they must present every morning for dosing. Their large volume can make treatment seem impersonal as well. Still, OTPs can be a good option for patients with limited means.

  • Clients are provided safe housing while they recover from substance use disorder. Not a treatment program per-se but a service for individuals in recovery.

Time Commitment: Clients live at the facility and must adhere to check-in / check-out procedures and curfews.

Able to Work: Yes, though they must adhere to curfew and other policies.

Cost: $1,000 to $10,000 per month, depending on amenities and location.

Offers Medication: No and some programs prohibit use of methadone or buprenorphine (Suboxone).

Offers Psychotherapy: No, though some programs may offer group therapy.

    Individual Care from Doctor: No

Notes: Sober Living is not a treatment program, but rather a service for individuals in recovery. Essentially, they provide housing for people recovering from substance use disorder. Quality generally correlates with the cost.

  • Time Commitment: Several hours for initial intake and then 30-60 minutes a month.

    Able to Work: Yes

    Cost: $100-$300 per month

    Offers Medication: Yes

    Offers Psychotherapy: Yes

Individual Care from Doctor: No, most telehealth providers are nurse practitioners and follow up with a particular provider is not guaranteed due to high turnover.

    Notes:

    1. Now that the pandemic exemption to telehealth prescribing of Suboxone has been ended, these telehealth providers are required to perform in-person intake evaluations which require the client to travel to a physical office for the interview.

    2. Most Telehealth Substance Treatment Apps are owned by large tech companies. This industry has a poor track record regarding adherence to patient privacy laws and a history of data breaches.

  • Time Commitment: About one hours for initial evaluation and then one to three monthly follow-up visits of 30-60 minutes each.

    Able to Work: Yes

Cost: $300 per month, with discount for prepayment.

    Offers Medication: Yes

    Offers Psychotherapy: Yes

    Individual Care from Doctor: Yes

Notes: Far less restrictive than other treatment options. Provides one-on-one individual care from a doctor. Offers the flexibility of a TeleHealth App with the reliability and personal attention of a brick-and-mortar medical clinic.

What NTE Health is NOT

We are not:

  • A drug rehab: we are a medical clinic focusing on the treatment of people with substance use disorders (aka addiction to drugs or alcohol)

  • A “licensed service provider”: this is a legal term created by the state of Florida to regulate drug treatment facilities not owned and operated by a physician (Dr. McGeachy is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Florida, and the clinic is regulated by the Florida Board of Medicine)

  • A detox or inpatient rehab: we offer detoxification as part of a comprehensive treatment plan but do not treat inpatients or care for patients involuntarily committed for drug treatment (i.e. Marchman Act patients)

  • A methadone clinic: we do not offer methadone maintenance therapy but do treat patients with buprenorphine-based medications (“Suboxone” / “Subutex”)

  • A court-mandated drug treatment program: we do not treat patients court-ordered to participate in drug treatment or held under a Marchman Act (treatment which must be provided by a “licensed service provider” in the State of Florida)

  • A pharmacy: we do not fill prescriptions for the general public, but we can dispense medications to patients for a drastically cheaper cost compared to cash prices at most pharmacies

  • An alternative health clinic: we treat patients using sound scientific techniques according to the biopsychosocial model of addiction treatment

  • A telehealth app: we are a brick-and-mortar clinic with a physical office and though we utilize telehealth, it is not our exclusive means of interacting with patients
